Last year, in the first H.O.G. Million Mile Monday, we logged an impressive 3,000,960 miles. People didn’t think we could hit one million miles let alone three – but we did. Now, just 45 days from our 2nd Million Mile Monday, there is no doubt in anyone’s mind that we’ll ride over a million miles. The only question is: How many more miles will we log on Monday, June 29?
This year’s goal is five million miles. That’s right, I said five million miles. You might say, “What?!?” That was my original response, too!. Actually, to be honest, it was “What the #@*%!?” (Feel free to fill in your own favorite expletive!). Then, after the initial shock wore off, I thought, we can do this. We can log five million miles in one day. How do I know this?
First, I have faith in H.O.G. members. The five million-mile goal came from you, our members. After last year’s Million Mile Monday we asked how many miles should we ride next year. The resounding answer was five million.
Second, we are all about riding and having fun. We can ride; we proved that last year. And Million Mile Monday is just that – it’s about going for a ride. Nothing complicated, just a ride. Whether you ride to work, ride around the block, go on a chapter ride, ride to a dealer event, or plan a big trip – it’s up to you. That is the beauty of Million Mile Monday: It lets all of us participate on whatever level we can.
Third, it’s worldwide. Members from around the world will participate to log five million miles in one single day. You can participate whether you are a rider or a passenger. Whether your country logs miles or kilometers, it doesn’t matter. Every mile or kilometer counts toward the goal. Because we are all in this together.
Lastly … well, if you’ve watched the video, you know the answer: because Mondays suck. Instead of the usual back-to-work routine we often feel on Mondays, you have something to look forward to: taking the bike out for a ride.
So, start planning now! What will you do to help us Strive for Five? As for me … well, I’m doing something different than my usual. Last year, I rode to work and took the long way home. This year, let’s just say I’ll be putting on a couple hundred miles on Million Mile Monday as I ride home from CLUB H.O.G. OKC in Oklahoma City. I’ll be taking the really long way home this year. More on that in future blog posts.
